Sopore July 14 :Residents of Warpora and its surrounding localities on Tuesday staged a protest against Jal Shakti department over shortage of drinking water in their area from last several months.
Protesters took to streets and blocked Sopore-Bandipora road leaving vehicles stranded. They said that people of the area were facing hardships in this summer heat as taps were lying dry.
The protesters while shouting anti-government slogans said the Jal Shakti department was least bothered despite being approached many times regarding the issue.
The protestors blocked the road for several hours and were shouting slogans against the Jal Shakti Department.
Meanwhile Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department Sopore GR Larwa While talking to Greater Now told that due to the frequent and unscheduled power cuts our Watlab water lifting scheme cannot function properly and this is the main reason some villages are facing acute water shortage.
He also appealed people to not waste drinking water unnecessarily and told Greater Now that within a short period of time the demand of residents will be solved.
