Transport association stage protests in Srinagar

Appeal govt to allow us to resume work

Srinagar, Jun 28: The transporters operating Jammu and Ladakh services from Srinagar on Saturday protested and demanded that they must be allowed to resume work.

They said that if they will be allowed to work, they will follow the guidelines in letter and spirit.

The Srinagar-Jammu-Ladakh Taxi Services Owners and Drivers Union protest, however, it was foiled.

Union members present their said that transporters have been facing immense hardships since they have not been allowed to resume their business.

They said that they are not even able to pay monthly EMIs of the loans as well and we fear we will along with our families die of starvation.

“If we won’t be allowed to resume work, how can we feed our families,” they questioned.

“When SRTC buses have been allowed to resume their activities why only private transporters have been left to lurch,” they questioned.

“One fails to understand why only private transporters are being pushed to the wall,” said another member of association while adding that we are ready to follow the guidelines in letter and spirit but we should at least be allowed to resume our business.

“Anyone among the transporters who will be found violating the norms should be dealt with strictly, we will support government,” he said

The association appealed the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and other higher ups to look into the matter on priority basis. (PTK)
