Srinagar, Jul 14: Scores of Rehbar-e-Khel teachers on Tuesday held a peaceful protest under the banner o at a press enclave demanding amendment of SRO 202 and hike in Salary.

The protesters said that the government has appointed 3000 physical education teachers under Rehbar-e-Khel scheme and were deputed in different schools of J&K in order to uplift the sports department of the erstwhile state.

The protesters said that under the aforesaid policy these teachers are paid Rs 100 per day with the probation period of seven years while the Rehbars of other departments have a probation period of only five years.

“Under the policy, the monthly honorarium was fixed Rs 3000 for the first two years and Rs 4000 from three to seven years,” they said.

“It is not possible in today’s world to fulfil the basic needs of Rs 100. More than 50 percent of teachers are married and have families who are wholly and solely dependent on these 100 rupees,” they said.

The protesters said that the teachers are running from pillar to post in order to get their grievance redressed but unfortunately their pleas have fallen into deaf ears.

“The rules of aforesaid policy are discriminatory and unjust and even violate the Supreme Court verdict for equal pay for equal work,” protesters said.

They requested Lt Governor and higher ups of the department to look into the matter and solve our grievances at an earliest. (PTK)
