Srinagar Mar 24: The Department of Irrigation and Flood Control on Wednesday clarified that there is no danger of floods in the Kashmir Valley at present as the water level inside the Jhelum River is well below the danger mark.

It has been raining continuously for the last three days, due to which there is concern among general public.

Water level in the river Jhelum was much below the danger mark despite overnight rainfall.  The level in the River Jhelum was recorded as Sangam (18’/21′)=10.67ft, Pampore (3.85/4.45)=2.36m, MunshiBagh (16’/18′)=12.17ft, Asham (14’/14′)=7.89ft Wullar (1579.00) =1575.95m and the level in Tributaries of Jhelum was recorded as Vishow Nallah at Khudwani (7.0)=5.69m, Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi (5.7)=1.01m, Lidder Nallah at Batkoot (1.65)=0.43m, Doodhganga Nallah at Barzulla (3.8)=1.95m and Sindh Nallah at Doderhama (3.35)=1.40m, It was Gauge around 10:00 AM on 24/03/2021.

Senior official of the Irrigation department while talking said that the rainfall overnight had resulted in the rise in water level in Jhelum but there was no immediate threat of floods. He, however, said moderate rainfall was forecast till Monday at many places in the Valley but it should not lead to a flood like situation.

“At present, the water level in the Jhelum River and its tributaries is far below the danger mark” said Irrigation & Flood Control official.

According to MeT department sources, North Kashmir has recorded the highest rainfall and the water level in water bodies is well below the danger mark.

Meanwhile, rains are continuing in the plains across the valley while reports of snowfall have been received from the upper reaches

The Meteorological Department has also clarified that the weather in the valley is expected to improve significantly from Wednesday afternoon.
