
Srinagar, 9.04.2021:A mock exercise on flood preparedness was conducted by 13th Batallion of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 1st Battalion of J&K State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in River Jhelum, near Zero Bridge, Srinagar.
The aim of the drill was to check the preparedness of all the departments and stakeholders and rectify any gaps in the resources.
NDRF and SDRF demonstrated various rescue and response techniques, in order to save lives in the event of floods, which included rescue of drowned persons, boat capsize, river crossing using rope rescue, use of improvised floating aids, deep diving, etc.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr Syed Hanief Balkhi, Addl DC Srinagar, who said that such mock exercises are very important and it helps in proper coordination, decision-making, prompt response, and other life safety aspects at the time of any disaster incident.
