Handwara, April 26:Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested a notorious drug peddler in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

In a statement issued to “Greater Now” reads that officers from Police Station vilgam at a checkpoint established at Manzgam Bridge intercepted a person identified as Fareed Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Jan Bhat resident of Tumna. During checking, officers were able to recover 10 grams of Heroin from his possession. The accused was going to sell the drugs among youth of upper Hafrada especially among college going children of the area. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 30/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Vilgam and investigation has been taken up.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace, statement added.
