Rafiabad:With an aim of providing the local cricketing talent a platform to showcase and harness their skills in the field of Cricket, Rafiabad Army kick started “Marazigund Premier League” whose first match was played today.
Commander Pohrupeth sector Brigadier Vikrant Patil SM VSM kick started the inaugural match at the cricket field of Marazigund amidst an electrifying opening ceremony.
The Marazigund Premier League is an initiative by Rafiabad Army and this event is being organised with an aim to tap the unexplored potential of the youth in Rafiabad and to spread goodwill and unity among the local populace. This event provides a platform to the youth of Rafiabad and other areas and adjoining districts to pursue their passion for cricket and demonstrate their skill and talent.
The cricket tournament will see 16 teams from Sopore, Kupwara, Handwara and Baramulla locking horns to achieve supremacy in this tournament.
It is pertinent to mention that at a time when Pakistan-backed groups are attempting to lure Kashmiri youth into criminal activities, the Rafiabad Army is taking a strong stand to ensure a bright future for youth in the area. In line with this, the Army has decided a platform for Kashmiri youth to showcase their talents.
The strong bond between locals and Indian Army personnel was witnessed on sunday when women and girls came to the field to cheer for their favourite teams, highlighting a positive sign towards a “Naya Kashmir”.
