RAWALPINDI :Militants targeted a convoy of security forces in an area of North Waziristan, leaving six troops including a young captain of Pakistan Army killed said military’s media wing on Thursday.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), an IED blast was planted on roadside and it exploded when the convoy reached near it.

24-year-old Captain Umar Farooq, Naib Subedar Riaz Ahmed and Shakeel Azad, Havaldar Younas Khan, Naik Muhammad Nadeem, Lance Naik Asmat Ullah lost their lives in the incident.

Earlier this month, security forces had killed two terrorists including a specialist of making improvised explosive device (IED) during an intelligence-based operation in an area of North Waziristan.

The ISPR had said, “2 hardcore militants including an IED specialist [were] killed, while one terrorist was apprehended.”

The militants were involved in killing innocent locals, extortion, planning and conducting more than 25 terrorist attacks on security forces, it added.

In September, Pakistan Army’s 25-year-old Captain Abdullah Zafar was killed after militants opened fire on security forces conducing patrolling in Shakai, South Waziristan.

According to ISPR statement, the patrolling was being conducted in the area to check militant movement in the area after receiving intelligence report about their presence.

“During one such late night patrol yesterday in Shakai, South Wazirstan, terrorists fired on patrolling party . During exchange of fire, Captain Abdullah Zafar, age 25 years, resident of Lachi, Kohat while leading his troops lost his life,” reads the statement.
