Uri,Aug 20: The legal Metrology Department Baramulla imposed fine of twenty five thousand on a petrol pump in Challa area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for selling petrol on exorbitant rates.
Reports reaching to Greater Now News said that Legal Metrology Department Baramulla fined this petrol pump namely “Zum Zum filling station” after receiving the complaints from locals that said petrol pump was overcharging on the supply of fuel.
“Legal Metrology Department Kashmir has imposed a fine of twenty five thousand rupees to Zam zam filling Station under section 30, 49 of Legal Metrology Act 2009/J&K Stds. of weights & Measures (Enf) Amendment Act 2011/LM (Packages Commodities) Rules 2011/J&K weights & Measures (Enf) Rules 2009,” reads an order issued by the department, a copy of which lies with Greater Now news.
“A Receipt No. 2706 challenged by Legal Metrology Officer Baramulla received 25,000/ Rupees (in words) twenty five thousand only from Mrs/Mr. M/S Zam zam Filling Station Uri, Prop: Syed Mahmood ur Rehman Challa by cheque,” it added.
It is pertinent to mention that legal metrology act 2009 prevents consumers from short measurements, short weighments, overcharging and other malpractices,” it said.
Officials from legal metrology department told that consumer satisfaction remains the most cherished goal of Legal Metrology Units in Baramulla and Kupwara and now body will be allowed to do malpractices of overcharging and anybody found doing so will be dealt strictly.
