Landslides block Kashmir highway, hundreds of trucks stranded

Jammu, Aug 31: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked at several places by landslides triggered by heavy rains in Panthiya and other places leaving hundreds of trucks carrying essential commodities to Kashmir stranded, officials said on Monday.

“The men and machinery are on the job and efforts are on to make the 270-km-long highway, the only all weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, motorable,” they said.

High altitude areas of Kashmir and lower hills and plains were lashed by incessant from last many hours, resulting in considerable dip in the mercury.

An official said that after the improvement in the weather, restoration work will start. (PTK)
