SRINAGAR, JAN 11: The Home Ministry of India has released figures on the militant incidents in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of special state status. The Ministry of Home Affairs says that in comparison to 2019, militant incidents have reduced in 2020.
On 5 August 2019, the Central Government abolished Article 370 and Article 35-A giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir. With the abolition of Article 370, the government divided Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
 The government said that this was done for the development of the state and the restoration of peace there. Even before the government’s decision, many big opposition leaders were taken into custody and they were not given the freedom to go out for several months.
While briefing the annual achievements, the home ministry said Adaptation of Central Laws and State Laws in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh is one of the key achievements of the central government.
“Orders were notified for adaptation of 48 Central Laws and 167 State Laws in respect of UT of J&K. Orders relating to adaptation of 44 Central Laws and 148 State Laws in UT of Ladakh were also notified,” the home ministry said.
“The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Removal of Difficulties) Order, 2020 was notified on January 31. It removes difficulties with regard to section 75 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 for administering oath to new judges appointed to the common High Court for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. A Bench of Central Administrative Tribunal was established at Jammu on 08.06.2020,” MHA has said.
 Home Ministry claimed that after the removal of Article 370, there has been a huge reduction in militant incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the data of the Ministry, there has been a decrease of 63.93 percent in Militant incidents in 2020 as compared to 2019. This figure is till 15 November last year. At the same time, according to the ministry, the death of special security forces personnel also decreased by 29.11 per cent. In comparison to 2019, there has been a decrease of 14.28 per cent in the casualties of civilians till 15 November 2020.
