Kupwara:The Indian Army initiated a tree plantation drive in Chountiwari, Doban, Bala & Hajimohalla border villages of Machhal Sector to celebrate the World Earth Day.

The drive began in close coordination with the forest department and locals of the respective villages. A total of 150 saplings of Beed, Walnut and Chinar were planted by 37 students of Army Goodwill School, Raghavan, 48 locals and 15 Army personnel.

In order to ensure that the saplings survive their ownership is being entrusted to the individuals planting them and village Sarpanch. Not only does the Indian Army protect the nation in its hour of greatest need, but in also assisting and motivating the locals for rebuilding a greener India.

The plantation drive was conceived before the onset of monsoons to ensure greater survivability of the saplings.

The students of Army Goodwill School Raghavan were encouraged to ‘adopt’ one sapling each to create a sense of care and nurturing and also inspire them to protect Mother Earth by becoming aware about the climate change and global warming issues.

The locals participated with enthusiasm and pledged to save the earth in every small way possible, thereby leaving a Greener Earth for the future generations also.
