Baramulla, June 08: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Bhupinder Kumar today chaired a meeting with the functionaries of Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department in order to take stock of irrigation and other necessary related aspects. The meeting was convened in view of current agricultural season so as to make all the related necessities well in advance for the welfare and convenience of farmers.

Meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ahsan Mir, Joint Director Planning, ACD, Engineers of concerned departments among various other officers.

On the occasion, a comprehensive discussion on some issues was held during which the DC directed to complete the desiltation of various canals in convergence mode with Rural Development Department. He also directed for executing the same process at Divisional and Tehsil levels where the concerned SDMs and Tehsildars respectively have been mandated to monitor the desiliting process. The DC also took a brief appraisal about the functioning of irrigation pumps wherein he stressed to ensure that these pumps work smoothly and in a hassle free manner.

DC also emphasized upon the concerned officers to streamline the flow of water in irrigation canals so that the farmers may not face any inconvenience due to water shortage. He directed for submitting report on regular basis so that effective monitoring of the process is ensured. Moreover, he urged upon the farmers to play pivotal role and cooperate with the concerned agencies for proper and timely desiltation of canals.
