Baramulla:The simultaneous execution of development projects in Panzlla-Rohama and surrounding areas is causing lot of hardships to pedestrians and motorists. The roads have huge potholes and even a little carelessness can cost dear.

It has been more than three years but the dug-up Panzlla-Rohama road still remains in a poor state. Local residents face an everyday nightmare to commute through the pathetic roads, putting their lives at risk. Officials concerned, however, seem least bothered.

The ongoing work has now forced people either to take long detours or risk life and limb to reach their destination.

The roads have big potholes, poor restoration after the digging work has even made riding a two-wheller on these roads a risky affair. In addition, the whole area remains engulfed in dust throughout the day.

People have expressed grave concern over the worst condition of roads in Rafiabad constituency. So they urged the government to pay attention towards the area where almost all roads are in dilapidated condition and the roads in the area have become death traps as often the accidents take place and precious lives are being lost.

Locals alleged that the contractor who was assigned the work is working for two to three days hardly in a week due to which the completion of the road is taking time.

The Panzlla-Rohama Road has been dug many times over the past two three years alleged residents.

Residents of the area further added that not just the Panzlla-Rohama Road, but also the Shutloo and Dangiwacha-Baramulla Main Road and the roads in adjoining areas are in a dilapidated condition.

“Dug-up roads make things difficult for the commuters, attention is not paid to repair the potholes and the roads properly which has turned into a nightmare for pedestrians and motorists,” said Farooq Ahmad a resident of Panzlla Rafiabad.

Bashir Ahmad, who resides in the same area, said, “These stretches cannot be called roads. There is no road at all in our area.

Every person’s life is at risk. One or the other person skids or trips from the bike every day. Recently two ladies fell off a bike on the road and injured themselves badly. Vehicles getting stuck in potholes and tilting completely in one direction are a common sight here.

Recently a tractor skidded off the road due to potholes in Panzlla area and driver lost his life on the spot and a many goods vehicles get stuck and get tilted on one side on daily basis. Though the ones seated in the vehicle remain safe but the damage to the vehicles is extreme.”

Another resident pointed out that there are many schools across the locality, and dug up roads can pose a danger to the children as well.

Locals appealed administration and R&B department which seems to be in deep slumber to kindly start macadamization (black topping) of the roads so that common masses will not face extreme hardships in the future.
