Baramulla:With a fevered passion for cricket, Iqra Rasool a bright 17-year-old girl has found an unexpected ally in the Army’s 32 RR of Rafiabad who are helping her achieve her goal.

Iqra rasool a resident of Dangiwacha Rafiabad in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has already represented J&K five times on a national level in places like Amritsar and Goa, and she has won a number of awards and medals for showing proficiency in the sport.

Recalling the incident, Rasool said, “There was a local tournament in the valley organised by the Indian Army and the Brigadier sahab told me that he will give me a chance to play with the boys and show everyone what I can do as a cricketer. I said okay.”

After that Rasool convinced her father to watch the tournament without telling him that she will be participating in the match.

The recent unrests in the region have caused a setback in her training. But the indian Army’s 32 RR has promised to come to her aid for whatever she needs. That includes a ground to practice on, equipment required to play the game and a cycle for commuting and to maintain fitness.

Iqra started playing cricket at the age of 13. Before she developed a fascination for the seam, she dribbled volleyball, shot handballs, and dodged opponents in Kho Kho in school competitions.

Besides this to secure her future the 32 Rashtriya Rifles has also provided her monetary support from time to time as well as moral support in order to help her to make her all dreams come true.

Iqra while talking to Greater Now expressed gratitude and told that from the first time Army’s 32 RR has expressed their interest to support me and they have till date supported me financially as well as morally and for this I want to express thanks to 32 RR for this friendly gesture from the core of my heart.
