Humhama, 17th June: A Corona positive pregnant lady admitted in a Covid facility lost her baby due to the negligence of officials, who allegedly failed to provide her timely medical assistance and ambulance for shifting her to hospital for the delivery.

The family of the patient, while holding the health department responsible for the death of the baby staged a protest against the officials, blaming them for the negligence, which according to them resulted in the death of the baby.

According to CNS, the incident occurred in a quarantine centre in Humhama area of Budgam district, where a Covid positive pregnant lady was admitted, who went into labour on Wednesday morning, but delivered a dead baby, due to the alleged delay in providing her an ambulance facility, for shifting her to the hospital, due to which she delivered a dead baby.

The protesting relatives said that immediately after the lady went into labour in the morning, they immediately informed the doctor on phone and requested him to come to the centre to examine her and provide an ambulance to shift her to the facility, where she could deliver the baby, but despite repeated calls to the officials, neither a doctor, nor an ambulance turned up for hours.

They said, “Due to the delay in providing an ambulance to the patient, she delivered a dead baby.”

The responsibility for the death of the child lies on the authorities, who killed the baby, even before he was born”, they alleged.

Even the in-charge of the centre also seconded their allegation, who confirmed that even the BMO concerned was also informed about the matter, but the ambulance did not reach in time.

Amid the protest of her relatives, the lady was later shifted to Srinagar’s major maternity Lalded hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile CMO Budgam Dr. Tajjamul was not available for the comment regarding the incident, for his phone could not be reached, despite many attempts.
