Jammu: The administration of University of Jammu (JU), which appointed five Deputy Registrars (DRs) through dubious selection process, is now in a hurry to confirm those appointments by ignoring the queries put forth by statutory National Commissions.
According to RD Thappa, President of Ambedkar Yuva Sangathan, the JU authorities have included an item related to confirmation of DRs’ appointment in the upcoming Syndicate Meeting scheduled on June 17. “The selection process adopted by the Varsity was questionable and has been objected by several stakeholders. Even complaints have been lodged at National Commission for Schedule Castes and National Commission for Schedule Tribes highlighting the irregularities and violation of rules committed by JU authorities while effecting the appointment of five DRs”.
Mr Thappa explained that the case pertaining to appointment of five DRs was still pending in national commissions and under such circumstances the matter related to confirmation of appointments should not be taken up in University Syndicate Meeting. “Why the people at the helm of affairs in University are in hurry? Let both the commissions give proper hearing and green signal to the selection process. But, it is unfortunate that Agenda Item regarding confirmation of appointment is being taken to Syndicate,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention that JU authorities gave undue benefit to some favourite officers by flouting Career Advancement Scheme of the UGC. To find a way to promote the Assistant Registrars, the JU administration took advantage of the period of transition from the State to Union Territory and fixed the interviews to promote 5 Assistant Registrars to the post of Deputy Registrars, who couldn’t be given promotion under Career Advancement Scheme of MHRD.
The JU authorities blatantly flouted the norms and constituted the selection committee which was improper. Even, the then Registrar Prof R K Ganjoo, who acted as full-fledged members of the selection committee, was actually ineligible for the post. And, now to cover up their misdeeds, the JU authorities are in hurry to confirm the illegal appointments through University Syndicate.
RD Thappa warned the authority always violate the roster policies and appoint there blue eyed candidates and make mockery of the roster system whether in the appointments of Registrars, and Assistant Professors or Professors . He further said that if the given appointments not cancelled , then they will have no other options and will come on the roads for the protest demonstrations.
