Kulgam, May 21: Mob killed a leopard after it injured 7 persons including a minor sibling while two bears were captured by Wild Life team in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Sources told that a ferocious leopard emerged in Damhal Hanjipora village of Kulgam creating panic among people. They said a mob tried to capture it, but it attacked people in the melee.
Sources added that at least 7 persons three among them seriously sustained grievous injuries. They said that mob finally attacked the leopard and put it to death.
Wild Life In Charge Kulgam while describing the incident very unfortunate said that people killed leopard in self-defense.
All the injured were shifted to Kulgam hospital where three among them were referred to SKIMS Srinagar for further treatment.
A medico at Kulgam hospital identified the injured as Showkat Ahmed Wagay (22), Musadiq Reyaz (14), Farooq Salam (16), Bilqeesa Salam (12), Shameema Riyaz (55), Owais Nazir Mir (35) and Mukhtar Ali (42), all residents of HM Gori village of Damhal Hanji Pora.
Meanwhile, Wildlife department caught two bears in Nandimarg village of DH Pora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Official sources in the department said that two black bears were roaming in the area from past few days due to which a fear was gripped among the locals of the village, they said soon after receiving information a team of wildlife reached the area and after a lot of struggle, they tranquilized both the black bears.
The official said that they have already appealed to people living along the forest areas not visit nearby forests alone.
