Absorption of MGNREGA employees:Final call to be taken by Govt: Qazi Sarwar
Srinagar:Director Rural Development Department Qazi Sarwar Tuesday said it is the government that can take a final call on the absorption of the MGNREGA engineering staff.
Pertinently, MGNREGA employees are on pen down strike since August 16 demanding absorption and enhancement in salaries.
Sarwar admitted that these employees get meager salaries since 2008 and there is a need to enhance it. “On the basis of market and sales price index, the salaries these employees draw are very less,” he told adding that he himself had recommended to the government 2 years ago that the remuneration of these employees should be enhanced.
Qazi Sarwar said that absorption decision can be taken by government only because it is policy decision.
“Two committees have been formed with regard to absorption and I was myself one of the members, but unfortunately, only two meetings were held and till date there is no headway,” he said.
“We have appealed these striking employees to call off their strike. Whatever instruction will come from top we will follow,” he said.
MGNREGA employees say they are waiting from past 2 years to get absorbed, while the government had promised that Service Recruitment Rules will be amended but there is no headway so for. KNT
