Srinagar, Nov 9: Border Security Force Monday said that search operation in Machil Sector of Kupwara is still in progress.

Pertinently, three army soldiers and a BSF man were killed and two army soldiers injured in Machil Sector of Kupwara district of North Kashmir on Sunday.

BSF paid a floral tribute at Humhama Budgam in honour of the slain BSF constable Sudip Kumar.

While speaking to the media after the wreath laying ceremony, ADG BSF SS Panwar said that it was a difficult operation due to difficult terrain. “The exchange of fire took place during the dead of the night when BSF Constable Sudip Kumar and three army men including an officer were killed. Three militants were killed as well. The search operation is still underway and it will continue till we are not satisfied that no militant is present in the area,” SS Panwar as per Kashmir News Trust said.

In response to a question, he said this year infiltration bids from militants came down drastically as compared to last year. “Last year around 140 militants managed to enter the Valley. This year the number as per our sources is only 20 to 25,” he said.

He said there are around 250 to 300 militants who are waiting to cross this part of Kashmir. “They are on launching pads and waiting to cross this part. We are alert and will foil every infiltration bid,” he said.

Pertinently, the encounter had started during the intervening night of November 7 and 8 after a patrolling party of Border Security Force 169-Battalion spotted militants along the Line of Control. (KNT)
