Sopore, Dec 08: The Sopore Police, in close coordination with the Geology & Mining Department and other concerned agencies, have launched a comprehensive crackdown on illegal mining activities in the River Jhelum.
During the enforcement drive, Police Station Tarzoo seized four tractors and two tippers involved in the illegal extraction of sand and other minor minerals from the river at Seer. This unauthorized mining had caused damage to the river embankment and posed a potential threat to nearby public infrastructure.
The action aims to curb the unauthorised extraction of natural resources, safeguard the environment, and protect public property. Police teams have intensified surveillance at vulnerable points along the river and are maintaining strict vigil in collaboration with revenue, mining, and irrigation authorities.
Sopore Police reaffirm their commitment to taking firm action against all individuals or groups involved in illegal mining or any activity that threatens environmental integrity or public safety.
The drive will continue across Police District Sopore to ensure accountability and the sustainable protection of natural resources in the larger public interest.
