With the inception and impact of technology in all spheres of life, the Indian Army has also incorporated innovative changes in the existing learning and teaching techniques in Army Goodwill Schools. In one such endeavor, Indian Army in collaboration with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) undertook the project of upgradation and Digitisation of classroom in 10 Army Goodwill School of Kashmir Division in the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Anantnag.
The project included converting 128 classrooms into smart Classes and thus revolutionising the teaching process. The project costed Rs 3.1 crore and was funded by PGCIL through their CSR initiative and was executed by iDreams Ltd, Gurugram. The work on the project commenced in Mar 2020, however due to COVID work was halted during the period Apr-Sep 2020 and digitisation of all classrooms was finally completed by Dec 2020. The key aspects of classrooms 2.0 are enjoyable learning process, improved student engagement, attractive graphics, better instructional materials and ability to cater to all learning styles.
Though the project had been successfully executed in Dec 2020 However, the COVID pandemic restricted the student attendance to schools for almost a year. During the pandemic period Data tabs provided to the teaching staff proved to be of immense utility. The COVID threat having now reduced and schools likely to re-open soon, new instructional tools await the students who will benefit by the Digitisation process undertaken in AGSs.
A total of 16 Army Goodwill Schools out of a total of 28 have been Digitised till date. We hope to digitize the balance 12 Schools also, so that all the Children studying in AGSs of the Kashmir valley can enjoy the benefits of the latest teaching techniques.
