Landslide Blocks Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Disrupting Vital Kashmir Connection

Srinagar, Oct 17 In a significant disruption to the vital lifeline that connects the picturesque valley of Kashmir to the rest of the country, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been blocked due to a landslide at Cafeteria, Ramban. The incident occurred on [16/10/2023 yesterday], and authorities are advising commuters to take alternative routes after confirmation from Traffic Control Units (TCUs).


The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, often referred to as NH-44, is the sole road connection that links the Kashmir valley with the rest of country . This crucial artery not only facilitates the movement of people and goods but also plays a vital role in maintaining the economic and social ties between the valley and the rest of the nation.


The landslide at Cafeteria, Ramban, has raised concerns among the authorities, as it has temporarily cut off this lifeline. The landslide is reported to have resulted from heavy rainfall in the region.


Authorities have been quick to respond to the situation. Traffic Control Units (TCUs) have been set up to provide real-time updates and guidance to commuters. Those planning to travel on NH-44 are strongly advised to contact these TCUs before setting out on their journeys to receive the most up-to-date information on road conditions and alternative routes.
